Mary W. Stewart, 98, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare.

Mary was born in Albion,Wisconsin, the daughter of E. Glenn Williams and Matie Head Williams on October 14, 1910. From 1923 until her death she was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Albion, a church where her grandfather was one of the first members in the 1800's. In this church on June 26, 1935, she was married to Hugh Stewart who preceded her in death on July 22, 1998. They had sixty-three years of happiness together enjoying family, friends, many activities, traveling and just being together.

Mary attended Milton College for two years and received her BE degree from the University in Madison with a major in Latin. She taught for three years in Westfield, WI, high school before her marriage. In Racine she was a substitute teacher for eight years before becoming a mathematics teacher at McKinley Junior High School, and for several years taught Latin classes at Jerstad and Gifford Junior High Schools. She was a member of Racine Area Retired Educators Association, WREA, NRTA and AARP. Mary had previously been a member of AAUW for forty years. She enjoyed playing with friends in various bridge groups.

Mary is survived by a niece, G. Ann Williams; nephew Rollin (Phyllis) Williams; and grand-nephew, Marc Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Gleneta Williams, brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Gertrude Williams and sister-in-law, Lucille Stewart.

Mary repeatedly said she felt so blessed and lucky to have such close neighbors and friends as, Alice, Marlene, Lorraine, Joe and others. These friends sustained her and gave her comfort.

Family and friends may meet with the family at the Funeral home on Friday, October 24, 2008, at from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held in Milton, WI, cemetery on Sunday, October 26, 2008, at 3 p.m.
