George Kowalchuk,80; Of Bristol

George Kowalchuk of Bristol died Thursday at Nursing Care Center of Bristol. He was 80.

He was born in Bristol, and was a lifelong Bristol resident. He served in the merchant marine during World War II. He worked for Wallace Barnes and Fletcher-Terry before retiring.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Irvine Kowalchuk; three sons, David Kowalchuk of Massena, N.Y., Gary Kowalchuk of Sparta, Tenn., and Ronnie Kowalchuk of Bristol; two brothers, Alexander Kowalchuk and Stephen Kowalchuk, both of Bristol; and a sister, Ann Cusano of Bristol.

Services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Funk Funeral Home, Bristol, is in charge of arrangements.

Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 306 Industrial Park Road, Suite 105, Middletown, CT 06457; or to a charity of the donor's choice.


George Kowalchuk, 80, of Bristol, husband of Jane (Irvine) Kowalchuk, died on Thursday (August 3, 2006) at Nursing Care Center of Bristol. Mr. Kowalchuk was born in Bristol on February 5, 1926 and was a son of the late Kondrat and Melanie (Kalamarchuk) Kowalchuk. A lifelong Bristol resident, he served sea duty in the Merchant Marine during World War II. He worked for Wallace Barnes and Fletcher-Terry before retiring and was an avid fisherman and loved bingo. He was a member of the American Legion Post 165 in Wolcott. In addition to his wife whom he married on August 10, 1946, Mr. Kowalchuk is survived by three sons and two daughters in law, David and Ann Kowalchuk of Messina, NY, Gary and Sybil Kowalchuk of Sparta, TN, and Ronnie Kowalchuk of Bristol; two brothers and a sister in law, Alexander and Florence Kowalchuk and Stephen Kowalchuk, all of Bristol; a sister, Ann Cusano of Bristol; two sisters in law, Cora Kowalchuk of Forestville, and Anne Kowalchuk of Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Sarah Kowalchuk of Sparta, TN, John Kowalchuk of Avon, Michael Kowalchuk of Ansonia, and Daniel Kowalchuk of Sparta, TN; three great grandchildren, Alexander, Julie, and Amber; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are private and burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
