Jackie was born to Joseph and Ruby Nell Munnerlyn on November 22, 1942, in Bakersfield, CA. Jackie was then primarily raised by her Grandparents, Charles and Ethel Lynch, in LamontCA.

Jackie grew up in Lamont and attended Arvin High School, graduating class of 1960.

From a young age, Jackie knew what she wanted to be when she grew up: a beautician. She attended beauty college directly after high school. During this time she met and married Daniel D. Shippey, Sr., who was serving in the United States Navy at the time. When Mr. Shippey was discharged from the Navy, a job opportunity for him brought them to Mojave, CA, where they had two sons, Daniel Jr, and Jonathan. Jackie went to work for Capri Beauty Supply on K Street, where she shortly there after bought the business and turned it into her own salon. For 51 years she operated that business at the same location. It was a constant in the community. She accomplished all of this while raising two boys as a single parent for most of the time.

In addition to the shop, she enjoyed being the local Avon lady, and was accomplished in crochet and sewing, even making her own clothes at times. She was active in the Church, attending the Church Of Christ, in Tehachapi. She was also a Sunday School teacher at times.

In 1992 Jackie married her true love, William A. “Bill” Houser. They remained happily married until his death in December of 2014.

Running a Beauty Salon meant that Jackie had countless friends, and many long time customers that she treated as family, and they in a reciprocating fashion. Those that were able visited her regularly in the last 2 years when she was not well.

Jackie is survived by her two sons, Daniel D. Shippey Jr, and Wife Lisa, Jonathan L. Shippey and Wife Charla. Sisters Loretta Woods, Terry Drafton, and Kathleen Escobedo. Brother Rusty Drafton. Grandchildren Daniel E. Shippey, Tyler Shippey, Gabriel Shippey, Kyle Crandall, Chance Charette, and Savannah Charette, and Great Grandchild Sophia Shippey. She is preceded in death by her husband William A. Houser, sister Betty Jo Campbell, and brother Charles“Butch” Jenkins.

The Family would like to give special thanks to Lola Frye-Smiley, who took care of Jackie and Bill during their final years. Her unselfish commitment to their care is a rare example of human kindness. We are forever grateful to her.

Stickel Mortuary was entrusted with her care. Internment was October 31, at East Kern Cemetery District, Mojave.
