"DR C W SAGER DIES SUDDENLY AT FARM HOME - Prominent Physician of Titusville Passed Away Last Night - Was Feeling Ill Saturday - STARTED PRACTICE IN OHIO - Dr C W Sager, for twenty-three years a practicing physician of Titusville and one of the best known men of his profession in this immediate vicinity, passed away rather suddenly at his farm home near Elgin last evening at 6:15 o'clock. Dr Sager had been ill only a short time when death came. For some time it had been his habit to go to his farm home on Saturday and spend the week-end, returning either Sunday night or Monday morning to his home on West Main street. As usual on Saturday morning, after making his calls he went to Elgin. He complained of severe pains in the back of his head. He was advised by relatives that it might be best to return home, but he decided to remain at the farm. Early in the evening Doctors Stem and Humphrey of Union City were called. Shortly afterward he lapsed into unconsciousness and never regained consciousness, dying last night. At his bedside were the immediate members of his family, together with three sisters. Dr Sager was born at Bloomfield, O, February 23, 1862, and was educated in the high school there. He was a graduate of the St Louis Homeapathic (sic) college and of the Hahnemanniaul (sic) College of Medicine at Philadelphia. Practiced in Ohio - Following the completiion of his education he practiced medicine for seven years at Middlefield, O, and then moved to Titusville, where, except for a brief period, he had since remained. He was prominent in Masonic circles. Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mrs P N Conner of Titusville; Mrs Benjamin Krouse of Erie and Miss Merril Sager of this city; one son, David Sager at home, and three sisters, Mrs Ferry of East Orange, NJ, Miss Emma Sager of Buffalo and Mrs Mark Smith of Corry. Dr Sager suffered a severe attack of pneumonia about four years ago and gave up his practice, going to his farm home to recuperate. Gaining in strength he returned to the city. Cause of death was a cerebral hemorrhage. Funeral arrangements have not been completed."
(Titusville Herald, Aug 25, 1919, p.2)

"The funeral of Dr C W Sager of this city, was held Wednesday morning at his country home near Beaverdam. Many relatives and friends were in attendance and numerous floral tributes attested the high esteem in which he was held. The impressive services were conducted by Rev W P Murray of Kane, a former pastor of the deceased, at one time pastor of the M E church of Corry. Two vocal solos were beautifully rendered by Mrs J J Sharp of this city. The interment was made in the cemetery at Beaverdam, with friends of the deceased acting as bearers."
(Titusville Herald, Aug 29, 1919, p.5)

"A FRIEND'S TRIBUTE - [Communicated] - Dr Sager's sudden taking away by the hand of death at his country home in Elgin, Erie county, on last Sunday, August 24, 1919, was a surprise to those who have been acquainted with him and have for many years taken medical treatment from him. When the news of his death reached this city, one out of every ten persons only would believe that the man who had so long served sick and suffering people well and effectively and was still active in caring for his many patients, could in so short a time be numbered with the dead. The news was too true. Doctor Sager had passed out to the great beyond, lamented by family and friends. The writer was under his care and medical treatment for a couple of years and I cannot forget his kindness to me and his ability as a physician in my battle for life. The memory of both men and women daily passing away who have during their lives rendered signal service to suffering humanity, should be held sacred. Dr C W Sager was one of such people. May eternal rest be his portion is the wish of a friend who reveres his memory."
