Jerrell T. Cate, 81, of Plainview died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at his residence. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Family Life Chapel of First Baptist Church in Plainview, officiated by Dr. Travis Hart. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Born March 8, 1922, in Grapevine, he grew up in Bangs and graduated from Texas A&M in 1942. He married Iris Stacy in 1942; she preceded him in death in 1993. He married Wilmoth Bellamy in 1996. He moved to Plainview in 1946 to start a dairy business. He successfully built Cates Dairy Farms in Plainview and Denver City. He was a member of First Baptist Church and of the Pastors Class. He valued people and was instrumental in helping many students with their college education as well as contributing to organizations he believed benefited others. Those surviving include his wife, Wilmoth Bellamy Cate of the home; two daughters, Jerrella Cate-Keim of Tulia, and Marian Cate Ashwill of Dallas; one sister, Joy Early of Bangs; and three grandchildren, Christi Ashwill Daughenbaugh, Catherine Ashwill Couch, and Michael Ashwill, all of Dallas. He was also preceded in death by one brother and one granddaughter, Wendi Ashwill. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or Plainview Senior Citizens Center.
