Elizabeth Jane Armfield Lambert was the daughter of Joab Armfield (1812-1872) and Susan Murphy (1812-1866). When Elizabeth was just 3 years old, in 1836, her family relocated from Guilford County, North Carolina and settled in Manilla, Rush, Indiana (where Elizabeth was raised).

Elizabeth Jane Armfield married William C. Lambert in 1853 in Rush County, Indiana. Later in life they relocated to Dallas County, Iowa.
