Doris, son of John Henry and Gertrude (Koffers) Bennink, was born at Red Rock near Pella, Iowa, on January 14, 1867. He was baptized in infancy and confessed his Savior in the First Reformed Church of Pella. On February 21, 1900, he was married to Jane Van Roekel of Pella. They made their home on a farm near Pella. In November 1919, the family moved to a farm near Armour and belonged for some years to the Grandview Reformed Church. They transferred their membership to the Community Congregational Church of Armour in 1930. Ten years later, they moved to town. Mr. Bennink had served as deacon and elder of the Grandview Church and a deacon of the local Congregational Church. After completing his active service, he was made honorary deacon. He was a regular attendant of Sunday School and church, never missing except in case of emergency. Friday evening Nov. 19, he passed away suddenly and quietly at his home.
Mr. Bennink leaves his wife and nine children: John of Custer, Washington; Minnie, Mrs. L.B. LaClair, of Wilton, Calif.; William of Pampa, Texas; Gerard of Ferndale, Wash.; Betty, Mrs. Wayne Woltz, of Laurens, Iowa; Arthur of Pella, Iowa; Paul of Yankton; Merl of Grand Island, Nebr., and Dorothy, Mrs. Marion Keil, of Ankeny, Iowa. Three children preceded him in death. There are also 18 grandchildren, two brothers, and a sister, as well as many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the Community Congregational Church of Armour, South Dakota on Wednesday, Nov 24. Burial was in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery at Armour.
