Son of Benjamin and Sarah Harbour Turman. He married Susannah Lavinia White 27 Jan 1818 in Sullivan Co IN. Children: William Harvey, Sarah Angeline, Benjamin Franklin (died young), Fidelia Ann, Lycurgus, Charles Ransome, Marquis Lafayette (died young), Selina (died young), Return Jonathon, Thomas (died young), Martha M., Mary Lavinia. He built the first flour mill in Big Springs area and was also well-known in business and political circles. "As a member of the state Legislature in 1843, he introduced and was instrumental in the passage of Indiana's first free public school bill." (From Turmans: Pioneers of township bearing their name, Sullivan Daily Times, November 10, 1989, Page 10). He was in Black Hawk War of 1830's. There is a disagreement about place of birth as tombstone indicates Bedford County. The Montgomery County came from the book The Harbours in America. If anyone has documentation for place of birth, please let me know.
