She was born September 25, 1919 in Fayette County, TN, daughter of David Warren and Augustine (Howse) Cowan. She worked a Registered Nurse at Bryn Mar Hospital and moved to Inverness from Newtown Square, PA in 1990. Mrs. Shaefer loved leading a life of service to her God at First Presbyterian Church of Inverness, her country as a 2nd Lt. with the Army Nurse Corp during WWII and her community through Meals on Wheels and a volunteer at Citrus Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Shaefer was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Charles Shaefer, a son, David Frederick Shaefer and her parents. She is survived by a son, Henry Franklin (Dorothy) Shaefer of Claymont, DE, daughter, Barbara Ann Shaefer of Inverness, sister, Marjorie Miduch of Terlingua, TX, 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
Inurnment will take place at Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, PA at a later date. Friends who wish may send memorial donations to Hospice of Citrus County, P.O.
