Solon Franklin Hatch is the son of Jeremiah "Jerry" Hatch Sr. and Aurilla Bard Hadlock. He married Julianna Swain, October 8, 1899.∼FUNERAL RITES HELD FOR FRANK HATCH. FATHER OF VERNAL CITY WATERWORKS SYSTEM PAID FINAL RESPECTS'

Friends and relatives filled the Vernal First Ward chapel Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 to pay their final respects to Frank Hatch, 65, who died Sunday.

Bishop Pontha Calder presided at the services which were conducted by Chellus Caldwell. Members of the I.O.O.F. of which Mr. Hatch was a member were pallbearers and present and former members of the City Council attended in a body. An organ prelude was played by Mrs. Mable Stagg. "Oh My Father," was sung by a mixed quartet with solo part by Mrs. Mae Jorgenson. The invocation was by Richard D. Rust of the Bishopric and a duet "In The Gloaming" was sung by Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Caldwell, Mrs. Caldwell accompanying.

Phil Watkins, former member of the city council when Mr. Hatch was water superintendent as the first speaker told of Mr. Hatch as a pioneer of Ashley Valley, coming here when but 6 months of age. His father Jeremiah Hatch was the leader of the group which colonized the valley sent here by President Brigham Young.Frank Hatch was employed for many years in the store owned by George E. Adams located on South Vernal Avenue.

He later became interested in the manufacture of brick. Some of the material from the brick plant located east of town was used in the Stake Tabernacle, Epicopal Church and Basin Hospital. Mr. Watkins said "As superintendent of the Vernal Waterworks, Mr. Hatch served for 27 years from 1910 to 1937, supervising the many changes which were made in the system to make it one of the most modern in the state" said Mr. Watkins. A soprano solo, "The Old Rugged Cross" was selection by Mrs. Jorgensen.

Superintendent H. Grant Vest was the concluding speaker with closing remarks by Mr. Caldwell. "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" was teh concluding number, a duet by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Goodrich. The benediction was offered by Bishop Calder. Members of the quartet included, Mrs. Rowena Lambert, Mr. and Mrs. Goodrich, Mrs. May Calder and Mrs. Jorgenson, Mrs. Dorthea Parent, Ashley Barlett, William B. Wallis and George P. Roth.

Pallbearers were Dr. J. L. Hansen, Lafe Richardson, W. A. Banks, Rulon Hacking, Emery Johnson and Jay Turner. Interment was in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Swain Funeral Home with Ernest Caldwell dedicating the grave.

Mr. Hatch was born at Heber City, October 22, 1877, a son of Bishop Jeremiah and Aurilla Hadlock Hatch. Most of his life was spent in Vernal. His wife Julianna Swain Hatch died five years ago.

Sons and daughters surviving Mr. Hatch are Mrs. Thelma Hatch Mowrey, Bus Hatch, Valoy Hatch of Salt Lake City; Corwin Hatch, of Larkin and Alton Hatch of Farmington, New Mexico; five brothers and sisters, Kurt Hatch of Shelby, Montana; Mrs. Permelia Swain if Vernal; Mrs. Olive Swain of Fort Peck, Montana and Mrs. Olive Morraw of Canada.
