Harold Dean Tapley, age 89, of Hillsboro, IL, formerly of Karnak, passed away at 8:50 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at the Montgomery Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hillsboro. Harold was born in Belknap, IL on July 1, 1926. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the US Army, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater, the Philippines and Japan having earned two Bronze Stars. Harold was united in marriage to Mary Alice Theike on November 2, 1946. He was previously a member of the First Baptist Church in Karnak where he was an ordained deacon, he attended the First Baptist Church in Metropolis for many years where he served as a Sunday school teacher and he was a current member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Hillsboro. He retired from Electric Energy, Inc. in 1988 having thirty three years of service as a Control Operator. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 148 and he was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Harold is survived by one son, Harold Kent Tapley (Kathy) of Hillsboro; one daughter, Rita Faye Farmer (Bob) of Bloomington; one brother, Gene Tapley (Patsy) of Karnak, one sister Suzann Spindler (David) of Chester; three grandchildren, Scott Farmer (Melissa) of Bloomington, Kristin Courtright (Wally) of Ft. Collins, CO, Bryan Tapley (Lisa) of Carlyle, IL; eight great grandchildren, Kendal, Jordan, Mackenzie and Drew Farmer of Bloomington, Taylor Gutierrez of Hillsboro, Abby Courtright of Ft. Collins, CO, Allyson Snyder of Carlyle and Nolan Dean Tapley of Carlyle.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Theike Tapley (2009), his parents, Virgil and Eula Saltsman Tapley.

Funeral services for Mr. Harold Dean Tapley will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 11, 2015 at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. Rev. Jeff Hemken will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Anderson Cemetery in Boaz. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Illinois National Guard Burial Detail Team and by area veterans. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 p.m. till the funeral hour of 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Youth Group in Hillsboro, envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
