Son of the late Col. Serjt. Robert Combie, of the 1st Bn. Middlesex Regt.
In 1892, at the birth of his daughter Mary, Robert was a Colour Sergeant in the 4th Battalion, The Leinster Regiment.
Educated at the Royal Hibernian Military School, Dublin.

Henry Arthur Combie, son of Robert Combie and Sarah Combie, formerly Moutrie, was born on 26 November 1889, at Main Street, Mountmellick, Queen's Co. [now Laois]
He was recorded in the 1901 census, at the Royal Hospital, Kilmainham, Dubli.
He was living there with his mother Sarah Combie and her 6 other children
Sarah was then a widow, her youngest daughter Margaret being born on 25 November 1899 at the Royal Hospital.

He was a former pupil of the Royal Hibernian Military School, Phoenix Park, Dublin,

His name is recorded on the War Memorial in front of the former school.
