Ervin J. Von Lanken, 93, of rural Charleston, formerly of Tuscola, went to be with the Lord at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 29th, 2007, at his residence.

Funeral services in celebration of his life will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3rd, at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend B. F. McClerran officiating. Burial will follow in the Janesville Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from Noon until 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the funeral home.
Ervin was born December 28, 1913, in Clark County, the son of George and Anna (Klink) Von Lanken. He married Mabel L. Starwalt on January 15, 1988.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mabel Von Lanken of rural Charleston; one daughter, Darlene King and husband David of Tuscola; two sons, Terry Von Lanken and wife Merdith of Charleston and Lonnie Von Lanken and wife Nancy of Tuscola; two stepchildren, Max Strong and wife Myrna of Charleston and Judy Rodgers of Lerna; fifteen grandchildren; four step grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren with one great-great-granddaughter expected later this month.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Ervin Gene Von Lanken and Ed Von Lanken; two grandchildren, Mark Von Lanken and Theresa Von Lanken; and four sisters.
Mr. Von Lanken was engaged in farming most of his life, retiring after seventy-eight years. Ervin raised his family in Tuscola and farmed there fifty years, before moving to the rural Charleston area where he continued farming in Coles County. He attended the Christian Church in Bushton and was a member of the Douglas County Farm Bureau.
