Herman C. Smith Dies at Seaside

Herman C. Smith, well known in the Hood River valley, having spent a year here with his brother, W. G. E. Smith, died Friday, December 4, at Seaside, from an attack of pneumonia.

Mr. Smith was born in Portland in 1879. He was a graduate of Portland high school. He attended college at Stanford University and Cornell.

He worked for a while in steel mills of Pittsburg, coming west later to take charge of the engineering department of the Smith & Watson Iron Works in Portland.

Mr. Smith was the second son of C. E. Smith, a pioneer foundry man of Portland. Mr. Smith was prominent in Portland club circles, having been a member of the Multnomah, Arlington, Portland Waverly Golf and University clubs.

Burial occurred Monday, December 7, at Riverview cemetery in Portland.
