How do you sum up the true greatness of a person in an obituary. I can tell you that my Father was a poet, a scholar, a teacher of life and a gentle kind man. He was flawed and human like the rest of us but possessed a great spirit of humor, laughter and a perpetual desire to learn. He wrote this poem shortly before he died.

If there is time let me hear the water trickling in my fountain

Let me hear the distant purring of the woodsmans saw

Let me feel the drops of rain upon my face
and the touch of the dogs around my feet

If there is time let me hear the laughter of my friends

Let me feel the warmth of the fireplace fire and the
whisp of smoke that tells of autumn

If there is time let me enjoy the love of family.....The feeling of home.....the joy of discovery in reading a book and hearing a song.

If there is time let me not waste a minute of it
For tomorrow may pass without me.

He was born at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton Ohio, loving son of Francisco "Pancho" Bustillo and Marie De Lille. He told of a very difficult childhood where the family often went without. He remembered his parents living in an apartment so small that he slept on a couch in a hallway of the apartment building. He lived for several years as a child in Mexico while his Father worked as an engineer and told us interesting stories of early coastal Mexico. The family moved back to Dayton and he went to Fairmont High School where he was very involved in theatre and track. He met many of his lifelong friends at Fairmont High School. He then graduated from the University of Dayton and Case Western Reserve. He also served as a Captain in the US Army and was stationed in Fort Chaffee Arkansas where he met Bettye Webster. When he finished his time in the service he moved his new family back to Dayton and opened his Dental Practice in Kettering. Shortly afterward he bought a log cabin and named it La Casona after a family home in Mexico of years before. My brother Mark and I then came along and he gave us a "Camelot childhood", I think in some ways he gave us the childhood that he never had and perhaps he lived it through us. He was known for his many light hearted practical jokes, he showed up at a friends fancy party at a party hall dressed in overalls and released chickens in the party house. Another party he and a few friends rented a firetruck with fire suits and ran into a party with hoses in hand. Every Father's Day weekend for decades my brothers and I would go canoeing with Dad and it was a great opportunity to really get to know him. We looked forward to our trip every year with his friends and their sons. The group nicknamed "Canoe Freaks Inc" was headed by his dear friend Dr. Richard Studebaker. In attendance were Karl Schiller, Tom Blalock, Ted Clark, Ralph Winkler, Richard Staley, their sons depending on who was available to go. Many laughs around the campfire and these devoted friends always had such fun. The same group hosted swimming parties every summer and the friends that had pools would alternate who hosted. Thus "Swinging swimmers parties" were born, their friends who they always had so much fun with. Aside from these events there were often card parties, Halloween parties, Christmas and New Years parties.

Dad had his first heart attack at age 30 and it was evident that he was going to have heart trouble the rest of his life. He never really complained of it but it was a dark cloud that always loomed over. He carried on until he was stricken with a heart anuerism that took his life very suddenly at the age of 54. He was survived by his wife Bettye Caroline (Webster) Bustillo, Daughter Ginger Gail Masters, Sons, Frank Edward and Mark Roland , numerous grandchildren.
He was a member of the Dayton Dental Society, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, the Wayne Avenue Businessmen's Club, the Dayton Antique Study Club and St. Francis Episcopal Church.

Frank, you left us much too soon, but you will never be forgotten. May you rest in peace. (James Burke)
