Death of W. H. Connell

W. H. Connell was born at Leeds, Yorkshire, England, November 29, 1832 and died July 22, 1903 and was seventy years seven months and 23 days old at the time of his death.

For the past year and a half Mr. Connell had been a great sufferer and all that medical science and loving friends could do to alleviate his suffering seemed in vain, for the disease yielded only temporarily and the renewed its ravages day after day, week after week, and month after month, until the once strong man that he was yielded and death claimed its own. During all this long sickness we called frequently to see our friend and always found him cheerful and looking on the bright side of the future.

The funeral services were held at the St. Paul's Union church, Saturday at two o'clock and the large and sympathlyzing audience in attendance was as evidence of the esteem in which he was held. The services were conducted by Rev. Hubbell of Edgewood, assisted by Rev. M. T. Bushnell of Rock Prairie, and were very impressive.. The burial was in the Rock Prairie cemetery, besides his children that had gone before. His sister, Mrs. Susan Wright of New Hartford, and other relatives from Parkersburg and Alden, Iowa, were in attendance at the funeral.

Mr. Connell was married three times, his first marriage occurred at Walsingham, Ontario, Canada, March 20, 1853 to Miss Ruth Sipell, and soon after this marriage he emigrated to Iowa and settled in Hardin county. His first wife died in November 1854. He married again January 28, 1857, to Miss Clarinda Alden, the of Alden, Hardin county, Iowa. Mr. Connell's second wife died March 7, 1866, and he was married again, September 9, 1866, to Miss Harriet Alden, a sister of his second wife, who now survives him. The surviving children are Ray of Waterloo, Iowa; Willie of Burr Oak, Iowa, and Mertle, who lives with her mother in this city.
