Alvin Eugene "Whitey" 53, of Atwell, WV, passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at his residence following a long battle with brain cancer. He fought a great fight and was lovingly cared for by his wife, son, and daughter-in-law; Elsie, Timmy and Tasha took excellent care of his every need.
Alvin was born November 26, 1960 in Welch, WV, a son of the late William E. and Audrey E. Matney Deskins. He was a coal miner and a member of the Atwell Mountain United Church of God at Atwell, WV.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Dave and Bertha Matney and his paternal grandparents, George and Eveline Deskins, his father-in-laws, Clyde Jr. Owens and Norman L. Wells, and several aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his loving wife; one son; one grandson; six brothers; six sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 1 o’clock, with Reverend Roger Hale, Sr. officiating at the Atwell Mountain United Church of God at Atwell, WV. Burial will follow in the Short Ridge Cemetery on Garland Mountain near Garland, WV. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
