Mrs. Mossie Jane Brooks Lanham departed this May 26, 1949 at Oak Ridge Hospital. She was born January 8, 1889 being 60 years, 4 months, and 18 days of age.
She was united in marriage to Fred Lanham and to this union 8 children were born. Her husband and two children preceded her in death.
She leaves to mourn her passing: six children. Daughters: Mrs. Laura Cook, Oak Ridge, Mrs. Bobbie Redmond, Crab Orchard, West Virginia, Mrs. Pauline Cunningham, Tazewell, Tennessee, Mrs. Alice Hurst, Monroe, Michigan and Mrs. Mary Lock, New Tazewell, Tennessee. A son, LT Patrick Lanham, US Navy stationed at Washington, D.C.
sisters: Mrs. Laura Hurst, Lafayette, Indiana, and Mrs. Ray Thomas, Brookston, Indiana; brother: Charlie Brooks, Harrogate, Tennesse; 12 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She professed faith in Christ at an early age and joined the Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
She spoke many times of of a better home prepared for her during her illness.
There is a day of sunny rest for every dark and troubled night; And grief may bide, and evening guest
But joy shall come with early light.
For God has marked each sorrowing day And numbered every secret tear,
And numbered every secret tear,
And heaven's long age of bliss shall pay For all his children suffer here.
Funeral services were held 2:30 Saturday at the Cedar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Whitaker officiating.
Interment in the Campbell Cemetery.
