Mary Evelyn Alves, 64, of Crossett died Thursday, July 13, 2006, at the Arkansas Heart Hospital. Born on September 11, 1941, in Huttig to Joseph James, Jr. and Olga Maurene Little Taylor, she was a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and her grandchildren and family.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Alves of Diamondhead, MS; one son, Mac Hughes and wife Jacque of Keller, TX; one daughter, Natalie Eileen Shirley and husband Steven of Bangkok, Thailand; one step-daughter, Susan Bonnette and husband Steve of San Antonio, TX; her mother, Olga Taylor of Crossett; one brother, Joe Taylor, III, and wife Mary Alice of Destin, FL; three grandchildren, Caroline, Holly and Lauren Evelyn; and two step-grandchildren, Beth and Stephanie. She was preceded in death by her father, Joe Taylor, and a step-son, Richard Alves, Jr.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 15, at First Baptist Church with Rev. L. H. McCollough officiating. Burial followed at Pinewood Memorial Park with services by Jones Funeral Home of Crossett. Pallbearers were Michael Orso, Max McGowan, Jack Reynolds, John Little, Benoit Little, and Louis White.
