"PROMINENT SPARTANSBURG RESIDENT DIES SUDDENLY - John G Healy Succumbs to Valvular Heart Trouble - FUNERAL HELD ON MONDAY - SPARTANSBURG, Sept 15 - John G Healy, one of Spartansburg's most prominent residents, passed from this life at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon. His death was sudden, coming totally unheralded, although Mr Healy had been in poor health for some time. He had been conversing with his wife and just started to strap his razor preparatory to shaving when the summons came. Nine years ago the deceased suffered a severe attack of whooping cough and since that time his health had been impaired. During the past two or three years his physical strength steadily failed, but it was not until about two weeks ago that he was forced to remain indoors. Valvular heart trouble, together with other complications, was his ailment, and while it was known that he was far from being a well man, it was not thought that his condition was so serious. John G Healy was 59 years of age, having been born in Sparta township, the son of Mary Sherman Healy and Levi Healy. On May 10, [1893], he was united in marriage to Miss Katharyn McCully of North Girard, who survives. The deceased was one of Spartansburg's most public spirited citizens, always ready to assist in any movement for the good of the town. He was prominent in Masonic circles, being a member of the local Masons and of the Knights Templar of Corry. He had resided here practically his entire life, with the exception of a few years when he was engaged in the lumber business in Forest county and in the state of Maryland. For a number of years he was the proprietor of the New Central hotel here. Selling his hostelry a number of years ago, he purchased a farm near Glyndon, to which he devoted much of his time, although residing at Spartansburg. His death comes as a distinct shock to his host of friends in Spartansburg, where he was known to almost every resident, and to many others with whom he was personally acquainted in Crawford county. He was a true friend and ever inclined to lend assistance when it was needed in any contingency. Surviving, besides Mrs Healy, are one sister, Mrs Lucius Rose of Sparta township, and one niece and four nephews. Funeral services in his memory will be conducted at 2 o'clock on Monday afternoon at the late home on Main street, Rev G W Corey, pastor of the Spartansburg Methodist Episcopal church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Rose Hill cemetery."

"JOHN G HEALY WAS HELD IN HIGH ESTEEM - Many Attended Funeral Services and Masonic Ritual Rendered At Grave - SPARTANSBURG, Sept 21 - Funeral services in memory of John G Healy were held from his late home on Main street, Monday afternoon, Sept 18. Rev G W Corey of the Methodist church, assisted by Rev Carrie H Price, officiated, speaking words of comfort to the sorrowing friends and relatives. At the appointed hour many gathered to pay their last respects to an esteemed and loyal citizen, a kind and generous neighbor and a loving and devoted husband. The funeral cortege was escorted to the Rose Hill cemetery by a large delegation from the Masonic lodge and Knights Templar, members from Oil City, Corry, Union City and Centreville being present. The services at the grave were in charge of his fraternal brothers, their impressive commitment service being used. Mr Healy will be missed by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. He was always interested in public affairs and willing to co-operate in any move for the good of the town; very hospitable; as an out of town friend who often visited his home remarked 'I always enjoyed coming. He made me so welcome.' He never allowed his right hand to know what his left hand did, and many acts of kindness and deeds of charity are to his credit that the world knows nothing of. Those from out of town to attend the funeral were: Mr and Mrs H W Mosier, E W McCully, Leroy Tuttle, Erie; Mrs C W Bradley, Mentor, O; Mr and Mrs Lucias Rose, Miss Blythe Aikens and Lell Rose, Western Sparta; Mr and Mrs Ion Rose, Mr and Mrs John Rose, Guy D Eldred, Union City; Harold Rose, LeBoeuf; Mr and Mrs Ford Scranton, Riceville; Mr and Mrs Raymond Crocker, Bion Sherman, Merritt Sherman, Jamestown, NY; P E McCully, North Girard; Mrs Lester Drake and daughter Florence, Mr and Mrs J Frost, Mr and Mrs A G Buller and daughters Janette and Edythe, D E Lines and Miss Bernice Lines, Corry; Mrs B D Kemp, Titusville; Mr and Mrs Wilber Farley, Linesville; Mr and Mrs Holeman, Pleasantville; Erie Lines, Glyndon; Mr and Mrs W W Winton, Mrs Hattie Gillis and Mrs Dell Kinney, Centreville; Mr and Mrs Frank Drake and daughter, Dutch Woods; Mrs Lizzie Day, Cleveland, O."
