U.S. VeteranClemon E. Hargis, age 86, of the Bent Community, departed this life on Monday, August 3, 2015, at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.
Clemon was born on May 16, 1929, in Somerset, to the late Albert Lewis and Gertie Ridner Hargis. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving his country and earning the Purple Heart from injuries received during the Korean War. Clemon married Joyce Johnson, in Somerset, on June 27, 1953. He worked over 20 years for the State Highway Department, before retiring in 1991. Clemon was a lifelong resident of Pulaski County and was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; two brothers, Albert L. Hargis, Jr. and Carlos Hargis, both of Somerset; two grandchildren, Jason (and Kayce) Arthur, of Franklin, and Crystal Arthur, of Raleigh, North Carolina; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Clemon is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sondra Arthur; three brothers, Willard Hargis, Dewey Hargis and James Hargis; and his sister, Ruby Bullock.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, after 6:00 p.m., at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home chapel with Bro. Dalous Sears officiating. Interment will be in the Pine Thicket Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Shawn Turner, Scott Turner, Ryan Phelps, Brownie Poynter, Russell White, Danny Arthur and Joe White.
The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Pine Thicket Cemetery Fund.
