ROCKTON - Diamond J. Betts, 80, of 11772 North Main Road, died this morning in Rockford Memorial Hospital.
He was born on June 16, 1903, in Rockford Township, the son of William and Mary Kappenman Betz. He married Irma Betty Black on May 28, 1938, in Clinton, Iowa.
He was retired from the J.I. Case Co. after 30 years of employment. He was a peacetime member of the army for three years and spent four years in the Marines, 22 months of which was spent in Haiti. He was a member of the Old Stone Church.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Deanna B. Swenson of Dekalb and Judith L. Richards of Byron; five grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Stonebreaker of Mt. Morris, Ill., and Josie Hoffman of Byron; one brother, John Betts of South Beloit; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother and four sisters.
Arrangements are pending at the Rosman-Uehling-Kinzer Blackhawk Chapel, South Beloit.
