Graveside services for Edwin Helgens, 87, of Scotch Grove and Mesa, Ariz, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29,1998 at the Oakwood Cemetery. Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, is in charge of the arrangements.
Louise and the family will greet friends at St. John's Lutheran Church, following the committal service at the cemetery. Edwin Helgens died Friday, Aug. 21,1998 at the Chula Vista Care Center, Mesa, Ariz., following a brief illness. He was born Aug. 15,1911 at Scotch Grove, the son of George and Anna Herren Helgens. He received his education in the rural schools near Scotch Grove. He then started farming with his parents.
He served in the United States Army during WWII. He started farming on his own following his return from military service. On Nov. 23, 1948, he married Eloise Sutherland at the Scotch Grove Presbyterian Church. The couple farmed in the Scotch Grove area until 1970. They have since divided their time between their home in Scotch Grove and Mesa.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise, and brother, Vernon (Mary Louise) Helgens of Scotch Grove.
