OBITUARY
Marvin A. Beck Sr.
Marvin A. Beck Sr., 92, died Friday, April 1, 2005, at his residence in New Castle.
He was born Dec. 8, 1912. His parents were James Albert and Margaret (Tackett) Beck. He was married to Catherine (Salyers) Beck for 67 years. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Joy Annette Schroder, of Dublin, Ind., and Mary K. Petric of Stow, Ohio; a son, Marvin A. Beck Jr. of Oklahoma City; a sister, Jean Casey of Mooresville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Scott Beck; an infant brother; and two sisters, Helen Zaring and Joy Beck.
He was a graduate of Whiteland High School and a 1937 graduate of Purdue University with a degree in agriculture.
He was a dairy herdsman for J.K. Lilly. He was later employed in farm management with the Farmers Home Administration, which was part of the USDA, for many years.
Through the administration, he worked in Vietnam for 10 years, where he was on loan to the Agency for International Develoment from the USDA.
He was an active member of Spiceland United Methodist Church for many years.
He enjoyed gardening and playing golf.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific theater.
The Rev. Brian Campbell will conduct a service at 10:30 a.m. today at Spiceland United Methodist Church, 123 N. Second St. in Spiceland. Burial will be at Bluff Creek Cemetery near Greenwood, where graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today.
