Arthur served as a First Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-17F "Windy City Challenger" (#42-3049), 422nd Bomber Squadron, 305th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Arizona prior to the war.

Arthur was "Killed In Action" when his B-17, while on a mission over Villacoublay, France, has attacked and shot down by two German FW-190 and crashed during the war. Four other airmen were able to parachute out. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
