Joyce LaVon Mines Welch, age 85 passed away "graduated" at her home Thursday, July 9, 2015 in South Salt Lake, Utah, after a courageous 29 year battle with diabetes.

She was born May 23, 1930, in South Salt Lake, Utah the third daughter of Leland Clyde and Rosella May Phelps Mines. Graduated from Granite High class of 1948. Married Donn Victor Welch, October 5, 1951 in the the Salt Lake Temple.

She served many callings in the Central Park Ward, including Primary President. She especially enjoyed her callings as a pianist.

She was a crossing guard for South Salt Lake for nearly 20 years. The children she crossed remember her fondly for the contests and prizes she had for them.

She was a picture framer, an accomplished pianist, organist and loved all things musical. She loved celebrating all holidays, especially parades and fireworks. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother.

She is survived by her sister Ila Nelson; sister-in-law Lynda Lee Welch; one son Tracy (Heidi), five daughters Jimaleen (Al) Loveland, LeAnne (Craig) Madsen, Camille (Cory) Swartz, Vickilyn (Russ) Terry, LaVon (Dirk) Evans, 24 grandchildren, and 43 great-grand children. Preceded in death by her husband, her parents and sister Afton Black.

Viewing to be held at Central Park Ward, 304 East 2700 South, Salt Lake City, Monday, July 13, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00pm and on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 from 9:30 to 10:30am, followed by the funeral services at 11:00am. Interment at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
