August 2011 - John Edward Durfee, 67, of Alfred has gone to a place of peace and comfort to be united with his father, Joseph, and three brothers Jerome, William and George. He passed away on Monday, August 29, 2011 at Maine General Hospital in Augusta.
The son of Joseph and Anita Deschambeault Durfee, John was born in Biddeford January 9, 1944. He received his education from Old Orchard Beach school.
John was a fish peddler with his father during the 1950s and owned and operated Durfee's Vacum Sales and Services in Biddeford. In 1978 he moved to Alfred and established Top Coat Paving and Sealcoating. He created John and Nancy's Firewood in 2008. John's interest included traveling, sports car, trucks and people. However, his passion was spending time with his family.
Survivors. His mother, Anita Durfee, Saco; his wife Nancy St. Michel Durfee, Alfred of 41 years; daughters: Angela (Raymond) Sanborn, Audrey (Scott) Turgeon, Kandy (Kevin) Hanson, all of Alfred; and Marcie (Neil) Westphalen, Raleigh, N.C.; sister Mary Goodman and Roger Lavole, Kennebunkport; ten grandchildren; several nieces and nephews survive John.
Services. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, August 31, 2011 at St. Joseph's Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Biddeford. Arrangements are by Cote Funeral Home, Saco.
