From "Notable Men of Alabama" (pub. 1904): "They came to Alabama in 1836 and passed their lives in Shelby County, he dying in 1866, at the age of sixty-four, she in 1880 at one hundred and one." Note: If Susan Maddox was born in 1779 as this article suggests, she would have been 53 years old when she had her last child. Hmmm.

1850 Federal Census: Edward, 55, born Maryland; Susan, 60, born Maryland; John, 28, born Virginia; Henry, 25, born Virginia; Adaline, 23, born Virginia; Catharine, 18, born Virginia. (Note: Sarah, 29, had already married John Hilsman Borum and left the household.)

When giving information to the Census taker, it was common practice in those days for the women to fudge a might on their age. In this particular instance, Edward made himself a little older (seven years) and Susan made herself a little younger.

Edward Florey, Susan Maddox Florey and their daughter Adaline Florey are buried in unmarked graves. According to old family members a storm many years ago swept through the Cemetery, and blew over several trees and obliterated the grave headstones. Even after all these years one can step back from the Florey Family area and see indentations of where the graves are.
