Tuolumne resident John “Jim” Lothar Graf died Sept. 3 at his home. He was 69. Born in Chicago Illinois, to Lothar and Erma Graf. Following World War II, his family moved to Wisconsin, upon his father’s return from military service in Europe. He grew up on a farm where he trapped during the winter and farmed in the summer. He joined the Army and served in the 101st Airborne, where he spent most of his time in Alaska. While there he met and married his first wife, Sharon Dewey. After being discharged he spent many years in the Sheet Metal Union, where he achieved journeyman level. He met and married his second wife, Patti, in 1975 and ventured into custom home building in Fairbanks, Alaska, and started the Borealis Builders. He worked as a general contractor in Alaska for nine years and California for 23. He enjoyed fishing in Alaska and the Sacramento Delta, dancing with his wife and friends, humming and singing tunes, cooking and bowling. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia “Patti” Graf, of Tuolumne; children, Lynn Marie Peterson, of Wasilla, Alaska, Tawni A. Marrs, of Encino, Shelley Graf, of Portland, Ore., Neil Graf, of North Hollywood; mother, Erma Rosatti, of Elmhurst, Ill; sister, Shirley Fourman, of Greenville, Ohio; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial date will be announced at a later date. Heuton Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.
