Herman Daniel Baldner, the fifth child of Herman Daniel Baldner and Mary Conley Nissley, was born August 20, 1927 in the same home where he died April 17, 1992 suffering from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
He was married December 26, 1955 in Adel, to Lorna Jane Taylor, daughter of William Taylor and Leota Carpenter, Indianola. To this union, four children were born.
He was a member of the Dallas Center Church of the Brethren since 9156.
He resided his entire life on the Baldner farm, which his father had purchased in 1910 in Sugar Grove Township. He began full time farming in 1945 following graduation from Dallas Center High School and continued until 1990 when he retired. For the four years of 1951-1954, he served in the USAF 580th Air Resupply and Communications Division, with overseas duty in Tripoli, North Africa.
Preceding him in death are his parents, a brother, Laurence; sister Margaret Hogue, and son Curtis.
Surviving are his wife, Lorna; three daughters and families: Glenance and Bart Shank, Madison, Ellen and Zoe, Dallas Center; Diane and Greg Smith and Brian, Gilbert, AZ; Ruth Baldner, Ken Yohn and Martin, Iowa City; a sister, Anna May and Roy Brechbill, Chambersburg, PA; and a brother, Milton, St. Thomas,
