Alma Gannon Herndon, 89, widow of John C. Herndon, passed away Friday, June 05, 2015. A daughter of the late Lecil and Olga Louise (Ryals) Gannon, she was born in Holly Grove, Arkansas on September 26, 1925. Alma and John were married on December 18, 1943 in Moro, and their home was blessed with five children. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, her daughter Betty Louise Allen, grandson Larry Johnson, and great-granddaughter Lindsey LeMon.

As a homemaker she was the happiest in the kitchen. It gave her great joy to prepare meals and have family and friends gather in her home for a sit-down banquet of everything homemade. A woman of many talents, she was an accomplished songwriter of country and gospel music and was privileged to record two special songs, “True Love Where Have You Gone” and “Oregonian Blue”. She loved life itself and encouraged others at every opportunity. She was of the Methodist faith.

(Note: There are some differences in family details between her abbreviated obituary as shown on the funeral home website as compared to the more detailed obituary printed in the newspaper, and the above bio is excerpted and edited from both. Feel free to submit corrections if you see mistakes, but please do explain how you know. She was a distant cousin of mine, by the way.)
