Eldest son of Melville Salter Chaning Pearce and Doris Chaning-Pearce (nee Viney) and dearest Grandson of Elinor Lois and Joseph Chaning-Pearce. Melville and Doris got married on 30/12/1918 at All Saints Church, Malabar Hill, India and at the time Melville was a Captain 1/4th Dorset Regiment and Political Department. Doris was the third daughter of J.E Viney Esq M.D of Swanage. When Paul was born on the 29 July 1921, in Baghdad, India, Melville is noted as a District Magistrate.

Sgt Paul Chaning-Pearce , Killed in action Jan 4/42 #82 Squadron (Super Omina Ubique) Blenheim aircraft lost in Transit from Egypt to Malta. Sgt Observer William Carlisle McNally , Flight Sergeant Pilot Donald Wood Beirnes , and Sgt John James Henry Robbins were also killed. Sgt Paul Chaning-Pearce has no known grave, his name is inscribed on the Alamein War Memorial, Egypt.

Chaning-Pearce: In glad memory of Paul Chaning Pearce R.A.F.V.R who, on 4 January 1942 aged 20, he flew into the mist ("visability nil") to the aid of Malta and mankind.
