Isaac B Newman migrated to the West with his father, Henry, and family in the early 1870's from Clarksville, Butler County, Iowa. He lived in Milwaukie, oregon, for a time working as a tanner, then farmed with his father near Millersburg, Benton County, Oregon, before migrating to Dayton, Columbia County Washington and later Starbuck, Columbia County, Washington to work with the railroad there.

Isaac later migrated to the Spokane County area living with his daughter, Vivian Nelson, until he was placed in the Assylum in Medical Lake, Washington.
