In January, 1874, he entered Erskine Theological Seminary at Due West and was under the care of the Second Presbytery during the course. On September 4, 1875 he was licensed to preach by the Memphis Presbytery, at Salem, Tipton Co., Tennessee and was ordained by that Presbytery at Richland, Shelby Co. Tennessee on September 2, 1876. He accepted a call to the pastorate of the Troy A.R.P. church, August 31, 1876. Later that same year Rev. Pressly was installed pastor over this congregation October 14, 1876. When Dora died in April of 1890; Rev. Pressly was married the second time to Mrs. Elizabeth (Stephens) Bittick, on Dec. 22, 1892. She was the daughter of Jerry Stephens and the former Miss Martha Ann Taylor. Thomas and Elizabeth had four children born to them, as well.

Rev. Thomas Peden Pressly departed this life on the 10th of May 1923 saying these last words before he died, "I have spent all my life preparing for this day, and it is the happiest day of my life."
