George Jackson Speegle married Margaret Ann McDonald, on December 23, 1858 in McLennan County and together they had two children, Ara Belle Speegle and George Henry Speegle. George Jackson's older brother, Philip Speegle, was married to Margaret McDonald's older sister, Belle Anne McDonald in McLennan County, on Aug 15 1858 (Belle Anne and Margaret's parents were Peter K. McDonald, who was born in Scotland and Margaret, who was born in North Carolina.) George and Philip were both members of the 15th Regiment of Texas Infantry. Philip Speegle missed the Battle of Bayou Bourbeaux, because he was in Pineville, Lousiana, in the hospital with malaria. Third sergeant George Speegle was one of the slain in that battle, buried there at Opelousas, Louisiana, in a mass Confederate grave.
