Jefferson Byron was the first of four sons born to Adolph and Eura Wages. He grew up on a farm near there and went to school at Shallowater, Texas.
In 1950, he joined the navy and spent his four years at San Diego. He and Mary Jim Ashburn were married in 1952 and returned home to Shallowater in 1954 where plans were already in the making to move to Bonners Ferry, Idaho. So, February 1955, along with seven other families, all farmers who loved the idea of "self-watering" crops, the big move was made.
J.B. helped organize the First Baptist Church in June of 1955 where he faithfully loved and served the Lord.
After his farming career ended because of floods, he worked for Monk Shelman's Texaco, Kootenai Grain Elevator and K.V. Hardware before bying Esso dealership from Dayton Douglas and Les Howard in 1959. In 1973, he built the tire dealership on South Hill and became a Les Schwab dealer member in about 1985.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Don and Wayne, and grandson Jason.
