Bertha Annie Burns -

The funeral service of the late Mrs. Bertha Burns, 92, was held in the Tremont United Baptist Church on Thursday, September 3rd, 1970, Rev. Howard McCormick was pastor in charge. Officiating was Rev. Carroll Armstrong of Barss Corner, a life-long neighbour.of Mrs. Burns, gave a very fine tribute to her life of service, and her family, church, and community. The choir sang three favorite hymns; “Softly and Tenderly, Nearer My God to Thee, and Rock of Ages.” Rev. McCormick sang “Over the Sunset Mountain.” Pallbearers were Arthur Curry, Cecil Welton, Ralph Neily and Clyde Neily. Interment was at the United Baptist Church Cemetery, Tremont. Mrs. Burns was born at Tremont, daughter of David and Charlotte Smith Pelton. Later she moved to Torbrook Mines, some of her earlier life was spent in Boston. When she returned to Nova Scotia, she was married to E.R. Delong Burns, January 1st, 1902. Mrs. Burns whole married life was spent at Torbrook Mines. Her husband, Delong, predeceased her November 6, 1917 during World War I. She and her two sons, Arthur and Carl, carried on the work of the farm at Torbrook Mines. Arthur predeceased her in 1956. The last three years of her life was spent at S.M. Hospital and Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Parker’s where she received wonderful care. On August 31st she passed away. Left to mourn is her only son Carl Torbrook Mines, daughter-in-law Madge; grandson Byron; one granddaughter-in-law, Genieve; two great-grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren.

Mrs. Bertha Annie Burns, 92, Torbrook Mines, Annapolis County, died at Mrs. H. Parkers boarding home, Yesterday. She was the daughter of the late Charlotte and David Pelton. She is survived by one son, Carl, Torbrook Mines. One son, Arthur, and two brothers, Adolph and Charles are dead. The body is at the Warren T. Roop Funeral Home, Middleton. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Tremont Baptist Church with Rev. Howard MacCormick officiating. Burial will be in Tremont Cemetery.
