Hester was the seventh of twelve children born to William Willmore and Emily Willmore nee Cornhill. Born in Dover County and raised in the City of Chatham, Ontario, she married George Young Payne of Peterborough and later of Detroit. They moved to California. They had one daughter Gertrude Isabella. Hester died of a cerebral hemorrhage in Santa Monica Hospital. She was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery
Santa Monica but at this time the burial place of her husband is unknown to family.
