Enlisted, April 2, 1889, in Troop A Cavalry, NYNG, (founding member, Squadron A), in New York City. Served till Oct. 12, 1891.

Attended Princeton in 1892. He was engaged in ranching & cattle raising, in Montana, after leaving school. He was a partner in Lee, Tweedy & Company. President of Birney Land & Livestock Co.

His brother Frederick Howard Lee served in Troop A Cavalry (Squadron A) 1890 - 1894, and his nephew Allan Campbell Smidt , 1906 - 1917.
