Born in Pennsylvania on 18 April 1845, Peter G. Fegley was the son of Pennsylvania native, Peter Fegley.

CIVIL WAR MILITARY SERVICE
Newspaper accounts of his military service indicate that he mustered in as a Private with Company G, 47th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, served as a clerk for his captain, and served in the following major engagements with the 47th Pennsylvania: Union General Nathaniel Banks' Red River Campaign across Louisiana from March to May 1864, including the Battles of Sabine Cross Roads (Mansfield), Pleasant Hill, an Cane River; Union General Philip H. Sheridan's tide-turning 1864 Shenandoah Valley Campaign, including the Battles of Berryville, Opequan and Fisher's Hill (September 1864) and the Battle of Cedar Creek, Virginia (19 October 1864).

Also, according to those newspaper accounts, he mustered out honorably with his regiment at Charleston, South Carolina, 25 December 1865.

Note: His surname is spelled as "Fegely" on his index card in the Civil War Veterans Card File at the Pennsylvania State Archives, but this card also notes that his surname spelling was "Fegley" on regimental muster rolls.

RETURN TO CIVILIAN LIFE

Following a week-long illness, Peter G. Fegley died from congestion of the liver and related convulsions on Sunday evening, 15 August 1909 at the home of his son, Stewart L. Fegley, in Allentown, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. His son, Stewart (spelled as "Steward" on the death certificate) was the informant. At the time of Peter's death, he was a widower and employed as a Hostler.

He was interred at the Highland Park Cemetery on 18 August 1909.
