David Eugene Johnston, son of Joe and Joyce Johnston, was born in Texas County, December 10, 1933.
In 1935, the family moved to Pond Creek, Grant County, Oklahoma where they resided for several years. In 1944 they returned to Texas County and made their home on the old Johnston homestead in the Mouser community. There David grew to manhood earning the respect and all the love of many.
He attended grade school at Straight, graduating in 1948. He was graduated from Hooker High School in 1952 and attended P.A.M.C. the following year.
When the Straight Christian Church was organized in 1946. David was a charter member. Later, on Nov.1, 1955 he and his wife transferred their membership to the Hooker Church of Christ, where they have remained faithful and dedicated members.
On Aug.16, 1953 he was united in marriage with Ruby Arlene Smotherman. To them were born two beloved children, Rhonda Sue age seven and Kerry Kim, age four.
He departed this life on July 10,1962, at the age of 28 years, 7 months. He was a man who loved his fellowmen and loved to be of help to others, at whatever cost to himself. The memory of his gentle kindly ways and his friendly grin will endure in the hearts of countless people whom his life has touched.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are the beloved wife and children, Ruby, Rhonda and Kerry, of the home, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe B. Johnston, of Hooker, one brother, Joe B. Johnston, Jr. and his family of Norman, two sisters, Mrs. Lotus Smith and family of Hooker, and Mrs. Peggy Clutter and family of Tulsa, one grandmother, Mrs. Aidee King, of Pond Creek, many other relat
ives and a huge circle of friends.
His lovely voice has given happiness to other everyplace his path has led. God needs beautiful voices for his heavenly chorus and will be happy to have David to sing there forevermore.
