Rudolph "Rudy" Stodola, 85, of Cumberland died Sunday, May 28, 2006 at Cumberland Extended Care Unit. He was born April 10, 1921 in Haugen to Louis and Mary (Kodesh) Stodola. He was raised on a farm and graduated from 8th grade at Holy Trinity School in Haugen.
Rudy enlisted in the Army on July 29, 1942 and entered in Milwaukee. He served as a clerk typist and a medical corpsman for over three years. He was stationed in England with a B17 bomber wing, and was awarded the "For Meritorious Service" award. Rudy was discharged Sep 28, 1945, at Base Truax Field in Madison.
He was married in Haugen on June 15, 1949, to Christine Prochaska who preceded him in death on December 18, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his son Michael and three brothers; Charlie, Louis and Edmund.
He farmed in Brill, then Bennidale, Illinois for six years, until he bought a farm seven miles outside of Cumberland in 1963. While there for 11 years, he raised about a 100 head of cattle and milked about 60 cows. Rudy sold the farm in 1974 and moved into Cumberland where he built and ran his business, Stodola's Welding and Repair for 28 years. He also drove school bus for many years during this time.
He is survived by three sons, Rudy Stodola, Jr, of Rawlins, WY, Robert (Tammi) Stodola of Lake Nebagamon and Roger Stodola of Eau Claire; five grandsons, and one brother, Arthur Stodola of Fernley, NV.
Visitation was from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at the Skinner Funeral Home, Cumberland and for one hour prior to service on Thursday at the church.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 AM Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Haugen with Father David Oberts officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery, Haugen.
Pallbearers were Monte Strickland, Tom Jacobson, Tyler Stodola, Jarad Stodola, William Stodola and Larry Severson.
