He was born on September 25, 1949, in Beaumont, Texas, to Henrietta Whiteley Pounders and Charlie Pounders.
He had recently retired from Xerox after thirty-seven years of employment and was a very active member of his church; Family Worship Center, in Beaumont.
John is survived by his wife of twenty-five years, Carol Pounders; children, Darrick Pounders, Darrell Pounders and his wife, Marianna, Tammy Richardson, Britt Seaman and his wife, Carla; four grandchildren; and sister, Linda Drexler and her husband, Jim of California.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
