Age 92, daughter of the late Eugene and Mary Wells Slesser.

Ruth enjoyed picnics, holidays, birthday parties, and wedding celebrations. She worked for the Northwestern School District and numerous area restaurants where her sho-fly pie became very well known. She received her GED in 1985 at the age of 62. Also in the mid 1980s, Ruth went to Brazil on a missionary trip. She enjoyed volunteer work.

In addition to her parents and husband, Robert Charles Fies Sr., whom she married on May 9, 1942, Ruth was preceded in death by her brothers, Earl, Sam, and Carl; sisters, Leatha Fisher, Nona Grininbom, and Wilma Rowe; daughters, Beverly Fies and Margaret Fuller (d 12/7/2006 age 56 in Erie); grandson, Jeffery Fies; great-granddaughter, Katrina Thorhauer; great-grandson, Shawn Thorhauer (d 11/2005 age 19), and a son-in-law, Sam Smith.

Survivors include her sister, Fern Chajkowski of Maryland; daughters, Karen Smith and Catherine Garlick of Albion, Ruth Ann Fies of Heath, Ohio, and Suehannah Fies of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sons, Robert Jr. (Tina) of Lexington, N.C., John (Shelby) of Girard, Mark and David (Karla) of Albion, and Paul (Paige) of Vero Beach, Fla.; son-in-law, Robert Fuller of Albion; many nieces and nephews; special friend, Flossie Rice of Albion; also more than 75 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Wellsburg.
