Ruth E. Kucik, 83, of Hopedale, died at 10:30 p.m. Friday July 16, 2004, at Hopedale Nursing Home.

Born Jan. 24, 1921, in Lincoln to Roy C. and Opha L. Goff Humberd, she married Paul J. Kucik July 10, 1948, in Gary, Ind. He died Jan. 30, 2003.

Surviving are five daughters, Jacqueline Lanter of Tuscon, Ariz., Paula (Ron) Gregory and Patty (Darwin) Litwiller, both of Hopedale, Kay (Doug) Goeken of Green Valley, and Lisa (Jeff) Springer of Minier; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Louise (George) Goeken of Hopedale.

She was preceded in death by one son, James Martin Kucik; one daughter, Carolyn Economos; two brothers; and three sisters.

Kucik was a reporter for the Daily Pantagraph in Bloomington for 11 years. She was employed by the Davis Mortuary in Hopedale for 21 years and was a dispatcher for Hopedale Rescue Squad.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, where she served as secretary for three years. She also was a member of St. Joseph's Association.

She served as a local St. Jude Drive chairwoman for many years.

She was a member of the Hopedale American Legion Auxiliary Post 1157.
