|Death: ||Aug., 1917|
According to the Seminole County News, Elise died from "a criminal operation," performed by Dr. A. H. Yates, and his assistant, a schoolteacher by the name of Mr. Fredrick O'Neal. It is generally considered that the "criminal operation" must have been an abortion, due to the location and time period. She was admitted to Dr. Yates office on August 15th, 1917, where she remained there for four days, eventually to be released home, where she died. Her death certificate listed the cause of death as "congestive chill." A few suspicious citizens filed a complaint with County Attorney A.G. Nichols, who ordered an autopsy on Miss Stone, which resulted in her death certificate also listing the cause of death as "criminal operation." This all took place two months before another girl, Katherine Cross, died at the same hands, by the same means.
