Vera M. Wiese of rural Larrabee, 92 , passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 4, 2016 at Careage Hills in Cherokee, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 7th, at 11 a.m. at the Cleghorn Presbyterian Church in Cleghorn, with Pastor Peggy Hegeman and Mr. Bob Blair officiating, and burial will be prior to the service on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the O’Brien Liberty Cemetery in Calumet. The burial is open to any friends or relatives that would like to attend.

Vera was born on November 6, 1923 in Cherokee County, Iowa to Chris and Agnes (Andersen) Nielsen. She was baptized and confirmed at the Danish Lutheran Church in Marcus, and graduated from Meriden High School in 1941. Vera then attended NBT in Sioux City, graduating with a degree in business. She worked for Booties Hatchery in Worthington, Minnesota for one year, and in 1943 returned home to help her dad farm and milk after her brother went into the service.

Vera was married to Donald W. Wiese on October 27, 1945 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church parsonage in Remsen and. she became Don’s “right hand help” on the farm, running the mounted corn picker for many years, and raising and butchering many chickens. Vera also loved to go fishing with Donald and their friends, and was an “ace” card player. For many years, Vera worked getting the Meriden Picnic organized and made many pies for the occasion.

Vera lived in the Cleghorn and Meriden area for many years and then, in 1976, the couple moved to north of Larrabee to the Wiese Century farm. Vera enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Cleghorn Presbyterian Church. On January 22, 2012, Vera suffered a stroke, and thereafter lived at Careage Hills in Cherokee.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her son Duane on September 11, 2013; her siblings and their spouses - Elisabeth (Leo) Pederson, Niels Nielsen, Margaret (Stanley) Birch, Marie (Leo) French, Andy (Doris) Nielsen, Esther (Edgar) Hagey, Elna (Howard) Lundell and Anna Mae (Ernie) Wilcox; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carl and Emma Wiese;and her sister-in-law and her husband Bernice (Ted) Johnson.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Donald, one daughter: Carolyn Wiese of Larrabee; a daughter-in-law, Linda Wiese of Alta; six grandchildren - Sue Lynn (Brian) White, Quinn (John) Woods, Aaron (Kelly) Wiese, Troy (Jen) Wiese, Brent Wiese and Nathan Wiese; nine great - grandchildren - Zac Woods, Taylor Woods, Chase Wiese, Seamus White, Connor, Robert, and Duncan White, Ryan Wiese and Kylee Wiese; two step-great grandchildren - Evan and Macaib Appleby; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
