Lucy Wenger, 94, formerly of Manchester, passed away suddenly Monday, July 13, 1998, in her home at the Gernand Retirement Center at Strawberry Point.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 17, at First Lutheran Church in Manchester with the Rev. Tom Jones officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery Delhi.
Friends may call at the Clifton Funeral home in Earlville after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Lucy, the daughter of Carl and Clara Stevens Harbach, was born June 4, 1904 on the parental farm east of Delhi. She graduated from Delhi High School in 1923 and from Lenox College in 1925. While teaching and attending classed, she earned a B. A. degree from Upper Iowa University at Fayette.
On November 25, 1931 she married Nelson Freeze. They farmed in the Hopkinton area for five before moving to their farm west of Delhi where they lived for 27 years before retiring and moving to Manchester. Nelson passed away on March 26, 1980.
On December 9, 1984 she was married to Gilbert Wenger at the First Lutheran Church in Marion. He passed away in November 1985.
After retiring from teaching, Lucy enjoyed taking care of many small children in the Manchester area.
Lucy was an active member of First Lutheran Church, having transferred from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Delaware. She was a member of the Del-Clay Retirement Teachers Association, Town and Country Club, the Silver Lake Garden Club, plus several card clubs.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Noel Freeze.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Rosemary Gerard of Marion, two grandchildren, James and Timothy Freeze.
