Mr. Sweatland was a native of Albany, Georgia but made his home in Milledgeville. He owned and operated Sweatland Automotive for 35 years. He was a member of the United States Air Force, serving in the Southeast Asian Theater for 8 years. He was a jet engine mechanic on the SR71 Blackbird and was a member of the Thailand-Laos Cambodia Brotherhood. Mr. Sweatland was a member of the American Legion, Georgia Auto Racing Hall of Fame Association and a member and deacon of Hardwick Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Elaine Amerson Sweatland of Milledgeville, his son Donald Sweatland (Kimberly) of North Carolina, a brother Jim Sweatland (Natalie), sister-in-law Susan Sweatland, two grandchildren, Ryan and Melayla, two nieces, Nicole and Natalie and two faithful companions Emmarae and DeeHenry Sweathland.
