FRANK A. CORNELL
The funeral service for FRANK A. CORNELL, 69, of Martin Street, a retired career serviceman, who drowned Tuesday in a swimming accident at Briar Point Beach at Tiogue Lake, will be held Monday.
He was the husband of Dolores A. (Stevens) Cornell. They had been married for 47 years. Born in Seekonk, a son of the late Harriet Challands, he had lived in Providence before moving to Coventry 30 years ago.
Mr. Cornell was pronounced dead at Kent County Memorial Hospital, Warwick, where he was taken after the accident.
He was was a staff sergeant in the 1207th Transportation Division of the Rhode Island Army National Guard for 33 years, retiring in 1991.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Frank A. Cornell Jr. of Cranston; four daughters, Brenda L. Cornell of Warwick, Donna M. and Melissa M. Cornell, both of Coventry, and Angela Pippin in Texas; a stepson, John Stevens of Coventry; two brothers, Frederick and Albert Challands, both of Providence; and two sisters, Doris Chandler of Providence and Loretta Mulcahy in Maryland; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Robert A. Iannotti & Sons Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., Route 117. Burial, with military honors, will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
